Life often presents subtle reminders of past experiences that have shocked or unsettled us.
These triggers can appear in various forms—like a conversation, a social media post, a song, an image, a scent, or even passing by a familiar place.
Trauma triggers don’t always announce themselves; they often operate beneath the surface. Their impact may manifest as:
For example, take a moment to reflect on a recent situation that felt stressful even if nothing was actually happening.
What physical sensations, thoughts, or emotions arose?
These responses may feel as though they come out of nowhere,
but they are deeply tied to our Fight/Flight/Freeze system—a survival mechanism hardwired into us.
When triggered, your body is reacting to what it perceives as a threat, even if the connection to past events is not immediately clear.
Understanding this process is the first step toward healing and reclaiming your sense of peace and safety.

Reiki is a Japanese healing system developed by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. A Reiki practitioner may use standardized hand positions and symbols or is intuitively guided by Spirit. It requires a formal and sacred attunement from a Reiki Master, either in person or virtually. It channels universal life force energy (ki) through specific protocols. The Reiki Practitioners are channels and don't use their own energy. Reiki certification has at least 3 levels with the information differing how the teachers offer it. The attunement can be used in person or virtually.
Energy Healing is a broad category encompassing many modalities and techniques such as Reiki, pranic healing, quantum touch, etc.). Practitioners may or may not require formal certification and they often use/direct their own energy. Methods and protocols vary by tradition.
Consider Reiki as a specific brand of energy healing, like how yoga is a specific type of movement practice.
Trauma-aware Reiki takes a more comprehensive view of healing, addressing the physical, emotional, and energetic impacts of trauma.
Applying self-reiki whenever you feel disregulated or uncomfortable can help you reduce stress within moments of awareness. You'll feel more calm and at ease which will then positively impact those around you. Reiki can be applied anytime and anywhere, under any circumstance.
You can, however, I do not advise until you learn at least Reiki level 2. Within the first level, you'll understand what energy is, how it shows up in the body, how to scan energetically, and much more. Then you'll have at least 1 month to practice on yourself, people you know, pets, and plants before moving onto the next level. You will also learn how to incorporate Reiki into your daily personal and professional life.
